Specific Efforts Toward CSR

Efforts Toward Environmental Conservation

Environmental policy

One of Suzuken's corporate philosophy, 'By creating new value, we contribute to the improvement of health on Earth and to healthier and better lives for all people.' indicates our philosophy and desire to contribute to every aspect of people's health as well as the Earth's health.

Environmental policy

Suzuken's business domain incorporates all of the fields related to healthcare including its core pharmaceutical distribution business. Within the broad 'health creation' domain, Suzuken continues to espouse advanced new values.

Suzuken believes that one of the most important issues in the 21st century is global environmental protection. We will therefore make every effort to contribute to the improvement of the health of the Earth and to support healthier and better lives for all people.

To achieve this goal, we not only comply with environmental laws and regulations, but we have also established and continue to implement the Environmental Management System which, with the cooperation of regional communities, reduces environmental impact.

We are actively working so that all people can have healthy and wealthy lives for many generations to come by promoting the efficient use of resources and energy, a reduction in generated waste, recycling, and the prevention of environmental pollution.

We are communicating our environmental policy to our employees, our stakeholders, and to individuals in regional communities. We will continue to make every effort to help our constituents to understand our environmental activities.

Environmental Management Systems

Suzuken has for many years promoted the use of ice storage air conditioning systems and the introduction of light cars and hybrid cars, all aimed at reducing emissions of CO2. To systematize and develop these efforts further, in March 2003, Suzuken constructed an Environmental Management System. This system considers the reduction of the burden that corporate activities exert on the environment as much as possible and puts measures into practice based on these considerations. In March 2004, the company acquired ISO14001 accreditation, the international standard for environmental management systems, at the head office. Suzuken is currently expanding the application of its Environmental Management System not only at the head office building but also at the Konan Distribution Center and Toda Distribution Center.

Details of Specific Efforts

Efforts for the Prevention of Global Warming: 3 Green Actions
Photovoltaic Power Generation Systems
Photovoltaic Power Generation Systems
A photovoltaic power generation panel with a maximum power output of 10kw (enough for 250, 40w fluorescent lights) has been installed on the roof of the Hanshin Distribution Center
Suzuken is promoting energy-saving activities aimed at curbing CO2 emissions as an effort for the prevention of global warming.
1.Green Offices
As energy-saving activities within its places of business, Suzuken is taking measures such as turning off lights during lunch breaks, thorough implementation of putting PCs on standby mode, and efficient use of cooling and heating systems.
In addition, Suzuken is making efforts in areas of its business places and distribution centers to introduce energy-saving facilities and equipment, such as photovoltaic power generation, photo-responsive lighting, and ice storage air conditioning systems.
2.Green Sales/ Green Distribution
As efforts made at times of sales and deliveries, Suzuken has switched its sales cars to hybrid cars and light cars, and is making efforts to reduce the volume of gasoline the company uses. As of the end of fiscal 2007, about 70% of the switchover had been completed. In addition, Suzuken is striving to strictly enforce eco-driving during sales and deliveries.

ISO 14001 Approval

ISO 14001 Approval

Suzuken has long carried out initiatives to reduce Carbon dioxide emissions, which include installing ice thermal storage air conditioners and using minicars and hybrid vehicles for its fleet. The company built an Environmental Management System in March 2003, which served to systematize and enhance initiatives in this area. The system ensures Suzuken makes efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its corporate activities as far as possible and provides the basis for environmental activities. In March 2004, Suzuken's head office acquired ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems.

Environmental activities are also carried out not only at the head office but also at distribution centers in Konan and Toda With the acquisition of ISO 14001 as a start, Suzuken will continue to deepen the employees understanding toward environment. Activities to reduce the usages of recourses and energies will be also carried out in even more strict manner.
