The Physical Activity and Health Promotion Guidelines (Exercise Guidelines) 2006 present the type and amount of exercise necessary to maintain health. Amounts of physical activity are shown as 'exercise units' calculated from the type of activity and the time performed, and combining walking and other forms of exercise with such day-to-day activities as shopping or cleaning. Performing 23 'exercise units' a week (of which four or more are from the 'Exercise' list below), lowers the risk of lifestyle-related disorders.
[Amount of activity equivalent to one 'exercise unit']
<Exercise>
Light muscle training = 20 minutes / Volleyball = 20 minutes / Brisk walking = 15 minutes /
Golf = 15 minutes / Light jogging = 10 minutes / Aerobics = 10 minutes /
Running = 7 - 8 minutes / Swimming = 7 - 8 minutes
<Day-to-day Activity>
Walking = 20 minutes / Cleaning = 17 minutes / Biking = 15 minutes
Playing with children = 15 minutes / Ascending and descending stairs = 10 minutes
Carrying heavy objects = 7 - 8 minutes |

The Kenz PAAS Lifestyles Coach processes the data from the Kenz Lifecorder PLUS, and incorporates software able to generate a report of the amount of activity in terms of the 'exercise units' shown in the ministry's 2006 Exercise Guidelines. It also has such features as a metabolic simulator, allowing for effective health guidance.
