"Health Creation" in Focus |
Being a total supplier for diabetes care |
Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country in the world. At the same time, however, an increasing number of people suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and other so-called lifestyle-related disorders. As part of its effort to be a total supplier in the diabetes field and support healthy lifestyles, the Suzuken Group has developed a variety of products for all stages of diabetes prevention and treatment, consisting of Food Therapy, Exercise Therapy, and Drug Therapy. In Food Therapy, for people concerned about their blood glucose levels we offer Duetea, a green tea with added fiber that has been designated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as a food for specified health use (FOSHU), as well as Pine Fibre, a FOSHU product of granulated water-soluble fiber and indigestible dextrin. In Exercise Therapy, we help to improve lifestyles with the Calorie Counter, a device to monitor exercise, and the Lifecorder, a device that records ordinary day-to-day activity, as well as data transmission and management software. In Drug Therapy, we offer a full lineup of pharmaceutical products. Our Group company Sanwa Kagaku Kenkyusho (SKK) has also developed an agent that eliminates excess blood glucose in diabetes patients after eating. Suzuken also offers small blood glucose monitors for self monitoring of blood glucose, and these devices have earned the trust of many diabetes patients. |

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, in an effort to extend the healthy life expectancy (the period during which people are healthy) of the populace, has formulated the 'Health Frontier Strategy,' and from 2005 to 2014 is conducting large-scale clinical trials on prevention and improvement of eight disorders, including diabetes. One of these trials is the J-DOIT3 (Japan Diabetes Optimal Integrated Treatment study for 3 major risk factors of cardiovascular diseases), in which Suzuken products play a prominent role. |
